A sunny sea of balls leads the reader through the cover and endpages to the contents of this beautiful book. The typography pays attention to detail and the text is easy to read in spite of the wideness of the columns. The one-column format is interestingly broken with illustrations. The photos of the artworks stand out with their high quality and are given the space they deserve.

The sinking-blue velvet cover with its gold-foiled letters opens out into a sea of violets. This is how this book should begin; welcome to paradise. The text, which interprets the artist with insight, and the skillfully intermitted photos of his works fill the pages with a compelling rhythm and variation. Same as in reality, the life and work of an artist blend into one.

Tommi Musturi, known as a versatile comic artist and illustrator, has collected his works into this book. The experience is explosive. The colorful and richly detailed illustrations appear in a carefully thought-out order and give the book an interesting pace. The book’s large format draws you into an intense psychedelic reading experience that holds you in a firm grip. Controled stream of consciousness.

What is this? Human skin, animal hide, marble? The cover of this book on Timo Heino casts the reader straight into the physical nature of contemporary art: grab, squeeze, open. Anyone who dares to venture into this book is rewarded with a fine introduction to the artist’s works and a pleasant reading experience. The difference between the natural-yellow of the text pages and the chalk-white paper of the photo pages, the calm and well-paced layout and the modern typeface all deserve due thanks.

One is almost afraid to touch the cover so as not to wipe off the pastel color. The drawings and paintings in Olli Marttila’s earthy color scale are reproduced with a juicy appeal on the softly white paper. The scarce range of colors and the photos of the artist’s works leave room for thought and also allow for the placement of the photos on adjacent pages. A fine finishing touch is the small, original ink-wash slipped in between the cover and the endpages.
